Hair grows in a cycle in three stages. The Anagen phase is the growth stage which accounts for most of the hair on the scalp and can last from two or eight years at most. After that, comes the Catagen phase which is also known as the transition or changeover phase, characterized by shrinking hair follicles. Then comes the Telogen cycle during which the hair relaxes.
However, only about 10% of hair is at rest at any given time and the rest is always growing. Women who have a healthy scalp will experience a continuous hair growth cycle and thus, less hair fall. However, tugging the hair too much while combing, stress, an unhealthy diet and other reasons that can disrupt this cycle, may result in bald patches.
