Good Hair Care Shouldn't Be a Luxury

When I first started working in the hair care industry, some of the most innovative products for hair growth and scalp health weren't exactly easy to find. You typically had to visit a high-end department store, an expensive salon, or a specialty boutique.

And the prices reflected that.

I always found that frustrating. Why should taking good care of your hair be something reserved for people who could afford luxury products?

That question was a big part of why I started HairXT.

I wanted to take what I had learned about hair growth, scalp health, and the importance of good ingredients and make that approach available to more people. Not just in specialty stores, but online and on everyday grocery store shelves.

Fifteen years later, I still believe good hair care should be accessible.

Getting HairXT Into the Hair Care Aisle

Getting HairXT into grocery stores wasn't quite as simple as I expected.

At the time, grocery stores were pretty conservative about where products belonged. Hair vitamins were supplements, so naturally, most retailers wanted to put us in the vitamin aisle.

But I was adamant that HairXT belonged in the hair care aisle.

My reasoning was simple. People shopping for solutions to thinning hair weren't necessarily going to walk down the vitamin aisle looking for them. They were shopping for shampoos, conditioners, and other products to help their hair.

Some retailers weren't willing to make that change, and we didn't do well in those stores.

H-E-B was different.

They were seeing the same shift in hair care that I was seeing, and they were willing to try something new. They welcomed HairXT into the hair care aisle, right alongside the products our customers were already shopping for.

And that's where we thrived.

It taught me something I've carried with me ever since. You can have a great product, but if people can't find it where they're looking for it, you've already made things harder for them.

Making quality hair care accessible isn't just about making it affordable. It's also about making it easy to find.

Expensive Doesn't Always Mean Better

One thing I've learned over the years is that price doesn't necessarily tell you much about the quality of a hair care product.

Beautiful packaging, expensive advertising, and a luxury retail location can all influence what you pay. But none of those things tell you whether the ingredients inside the bottle are right for your hair.

When I'm evaluating an ingredient, I'm much more interested in what it does, why it's included, and how it works alongside the other ingredients in a formula.

And sometimes, what a product doesn't contain is just as important.

That doesn't mean inexpensive products are automatically better, either. It means we need to look beyond the price tag.

Why I Still Believe in Accessible Hair Care

When I developed HairXT, I wanted to bring together three areas of hair care that I felt deserved attention: nutrients to support healthy growth, botanical ingredients selected with hair shedding in mind, and antioxidants to help support hair and scalp health.

That became the foundation of our Triple Advantage approach.

But the bigger idea was always accessibility.

I didn't want someone to feel that taking care of their hair required an expensive salon visit or a luxury price tag.

And I still don't.

After 15 years leading HairXT, I've seen how personal hair loss can be. Whether someone is noticing a widening part, dealing with postpartum shedding, or simply finding more hair in the shower than they used to, it can be upsetting.

I also know how tempting it is to buy whatever product promises the fastest results.

My advice is to slow down long enough to understand what you're buying. Read the ingredients. Ask questions. And remember that the most expensive option isn't necessarily the best one.

Good hair care doesn't have to be the most expensive hair care. It should be thoughtful, well-made, and appropriate for your needs.

That's what I believed when I started HairXT, and it's what I believe today.
